Be Thoughtful of What You Wish For

We are just days away from wrapping up this unforgettable year. The era of the greatest (perhaps) plague in the history of humankind. The year where everybody begins to adapt to the new normal daily routines and live by abiding to new terms like SOPs and to delay or to call off plans that have been arranged prior to the global lockdown.

More than a year ago, I was planning to return to Seoul during winter this year. I had calculated my savings and budget for the trip. The intended date for this getaway was after Christmas, in the hope of spending new year's eve at the famous Bosingak together with the Seoulites.

Last year, we were busy preparing to usher in the year 2020. Everyone was so eager to see what 2020 had to offer for the next 366 days. No one expected the virus that broke out in Wuhan, China would eventually affected the whole world.

I made a wish during the new year's countdown party at my now former workplace, that I would not spend the next countdown at another countdown bash (I had been on duty for the past three years) and wished for a different kind of celebration.

Little did I know I would end my career as a hotelier later and would be spending a quiet Christmas and new year at home, amidst of the pandemic. The outbreak seems to go out on another rampage again in many parts of the world as I am writing this post.

I guess we all have to re-learn how to be more careful of what we ask for.
